How to Schedule Your First Visit to Wayne Scott Unit with the TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler
Scheduling your first visit at Wayne Scott Unit happens online — but you can't book a time until your account and relationship request are fully approved. Here's how to get through the process without hitting a dead end.
You'll need to create your own TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler account. Staff can't do it for you. Once your account exists, they can help update certain details like your name or address, but the initial setup is entirely on you. Pick an email address you'll have access to long-term - once an account is tied to an email, it can't be deleted and the email can't be changed.
Start by entering a valid email address and submitting it. Then check your inbox - TDCJ sends an email with a 7-digit validation code and a link to finish registration. Click the link, re-enter your email, type in the 7-digit code, and complete the remaining steps.
After you set your password, you'll move into the Background Questionnaire. Every question must be answered - leave anything blank and you won't be able to continue. Set aside a few uninterrupted minutes and have any personal details you might need ready before you start.
- Find the inmate in the scheduler - Use the search tool to pull up the correct person (many visitors use the TDCJ/SID number to avoid mix-ups).
- Choose your relationship - Select the right option from the relationship dropdown.
- Submit the Relationship Request - Send the request for approval.
- Wait for unit verification - Your Relationship Request is sent to the inmate’s unit of assignment, where TDCJ staff verify the visitor/inmate relationship. Scheduling options won’t fully open up until that verification step is completed.
When you're ready to book, the scheduler will ask you to pick a visit type. Options include Regular, Contact, and Video/Tablet. (Video/Tablet is separate from the Securus Video program - they're not the same thing.) Don't worry if you don't see every option listed. What's available depends on your relationship to the inmate, the facility's setup, and the inmate's current visitation privileges.
Once you select a visit type, the scheduler shows you the dates and times that are actually open. If your preferred day isn't showing, it usually means slots haven't been released yet or they're already taken. The system also prevents bookings that would conflict with the allowed visit cycle. If it won't let you submit a request, check what you already have scheduled and try a different available slot.
Note: Before you drive to Wayne Scott Unit, call to confirm the inmate is there, visitation hasn't been canceled, and the schedule is still in effect. Visitation information is updated daily.
