Wayne Scott Unit: Visiting Hours, Visit Lengths, and How the Visiting Cycle Works

Visiting hours at the Wayne Scott Unit are Saturdays and Sundays, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. TDCJ counts visits on a weekly cycle that runs Monday through Sunday - and inmates typically get one visit per cycle. So if you visit on Saturday, you generally can't come back Sunday. That second visit would fall within the same cycle.

Note: Visiting cycles run Monday through Sunday, and normally you’ll get one visit per cycle - so pick the weekend day and time that works best before you make the trip.

A regular visit is two hours long. The two-hour clock starts when both the inmate and the visitor(s) are present - so your visit time is based on when you’re actually together, not when you arrive at the unit or start check-in.

The one-visit-per-cycle rule catches a lot of people off guard. Even though visiting hours are offered both Saturday and Sunday, think of it as a once-a-week opportunity. Coordinating with other family members? Decide ahead of time who's going that week - otherwise you might accidentally block someone else from visiting.

Note: The one-visit-per-cycle limit is the normal rule. If you believe you may qualify for a special or extended visit, you’ll need to ask the unit about options and timing.

Scheduler and Calling

  • Create your own account in the TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler (staff cannot create visitor accounts for you)
  • If you need to fix details after you’ve created your account (like a name or address), unit staff may be able to help update that information

Once your account is set up, you'll schedule visits through the TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler. If you log in and don't see a "Schedule Visit" option - or the system tells you to "Call Unit" - that means you need to call the facility directly to arrange your visit.

Note: Even when weekend hours are posted, visits can be restricted by safety and security needs. If you’re traveling any distance, confirm the plan before you leave so you don’t get turned around at the door.
