Visiting Shawnee County Jail takes a little preparation, but the process is straightforward once you know the rules. Bring valid picture identification (driver's license, state ID, or school ID) to present before entering the visitation area. The jail enforces clothing restrictions, and visits can be denied for dress code violations or conduct issues. Personal belongings aren't allowed in the visitation room. Lockers in the lobby hold purses, cell phones, cameras, pagers, radios, and coats. Juvenile residents get one visit per visitation day, lasting 25 minutes. The facility sets limits on how many visitors can attend and which age combinations are allowed (check with the facility for specific time slots). Shawnee County Jail uses SmartInmate (Smart Communications) as its online communications portal. Families can sign up at no cost. You can stay connected through in-person visits, video visits, phone calls, and electronic messages or photos via tablet services. For video and remote visits, you'll register with the approved vendor, schedule your session ahead of time, and pay when you book. Phone calls are typically outbound from residents and require a prepaid or approved calling account before calls can go through. Tablet messaging and photo services require creating a vendor account and adding funds before sending messages or media.

Shawnee County Jail doesn't accept every type of mailed payment for inmate accounts. If you're mailing a deposit, use an approved form only: bank money orders, attorney trust-account checks, cashier's checks, government checks, or tribal checks. Prefer cash? Deposit it at the Records window in the front lobby. When Records is closed, the booking window accepts cash. ADC inmates can also receive funds through a kiosk in the Annex front lobby or online at www.touchpayonline.com. Keep in mind that inmate accounts may have mandatory deductions (booking/processing fees, medical co-pays, copies, haircuts, and other listed fees) before commissary purchases.
