Before Your First Visit to Shawnee County Jail: What to Bring and What to Leave Behind
Your first visit goes smoother when you show up with the right ID, park in the right spot, and leave personal items where they belong. This guide covers the most common check-in problems at Shawnee County Jail so you can avoid them.
Bring a valid photo ID. Shawnee County Jail accepts a driver's license, state ID card, or school ID card. Show up without one, and your visit will likely be delayed or denied at the door.
Visiting in a professional capacity? Bring credentials to match: government ID, law enforcement ID, or documentation of religious affiliation. Having these ready at check-in saves time.
Walk into the visitation area empty-handed. Shawnee County Jail doesn't allow personal belongings inside, so anything extra stays secured outside.

Lockers are available in the lobby. If you bring a purse, phone, camera, or coat, you'll need to stow it before entering the visitation area.
Park in the facility's front lot or on the street. If one fills up, use the other. Don't try to squeeze into a restricted area.
Warning: Cars that are illegally parked, or parked in areas not authorized for visitors, may be ticketed and/or towed.
Need a special visit with an adult inmate? You'll have to get it approved and arranged ahead of time. Contact the Adult Detention Center Operations Division Manager (or someone higher) to start the request process. Do this as early as possible.
