What to Bring (and Leave Behind) for Video Visits at Shelby County Jail
Video visits go smoothly when you show up with the one thing they'll actually ask for—and leave everything else out of the visitation lobby.
Bring a valid, government-issued photo ID. Staff will check it at registration and again at check-in - have it ready. One more thing: you need to be approved by the facility before visiting an inmate. Make sure that approval is in place before you head over.
ID reminder: A passport or state ID counts as valid government-issued photo identification for registration and check-in.

Scheduling on-site? Head to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office and use the lobby visitation kiosk. Give yourself extra time - visits scheduled at the kiosk won't start until at least 15 minutes after you finish booking. And don't expect a same-day slot. On-site visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours ahead.
- Use the lobby visitation kiosk - schedule your on-site video visit at the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
- Finish scheduling completely - the visit time is based on when scheduling is completed.

Assume your visit isn't private. At Shelby County Jail, all visits are recorded and monitored - attorney visits are the only exception.
Keep things appropriate. Loud, foul, or offensive language isn't allowed, and nudity is prohibited. Either one can get your visit cut short.
