How to Apply to Visit Someone at Skyline Correctional Center (The Beacon)

Everyone needs to go through the Visitor Application process before visiting someone at Skyline Correctional Center. This covers all social visitation - contact visits, non-contact visits, family time visits, phone calls, and video visitation. Attorneys, clergy, and certain professional visitors follow a different process. Their visits aren't considered "social visitation" under CDOC's rules. Planning to use video visitation? You still need to complete the application. You must be on the person's approved visiting list before you can schedule any video visit.

First, get the right form: AR 300-01A (Visitor Application). This is the standard CDOC Visitor Application. You'll fill it out and return it to Skyline, where the person you want to visit is housed.

Complete every section of the Visitor Application and sign it before sending. Adults must include a copy of a current, valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID. Here's a detail that trips people up: the address on your application must match the address on your photo ID. CDOC may deny applications with mismatched addresses. Bringing minor children (under 18)? List them on the legal guardian's Visitor Application and include a copy of each child's birth certificate or adoption/guardianship order. If someone other than the parent or legal guardian will bring the child to visit - say, another immediate adult family member - the parent or legal guardian must provide written approval using AR Form 300-01F (Authorization for Minor Child Visitation).

Once you apply, CDOC runs a background check. Approved visitors get rechecked every year as long as they stay active. Stay active on the visiting list. If you go a full year without visiting, you'll be automatically deactivated and will need to reapply.

Tips Common Problems

• ✓ Write the same address on the application that appears on your ID (mismatches can lead to denial)
• ✓ Submit a fully completed, signed application (missing pages or signatures can get it rejected)
• ✓ If minors will visit, list them correctly and include the required supporting documents (and Form 300-01F when another adult brings the child)
• ✓ Follow Skyline’s facility-specific instructions for where/how to submit your application so it doesn’t get delayed or sent to the wrong place

One more thing: the number of visitors allowed and visit length depend on the facility's schedule, space, and staffing. If you're traveling or bringing a group, build in some flexibility.
