Sending Money

Sending Money to Someone at Skyline: Which Service to Use and How Fast It Posts

Getting money onto someone's account at Skyline is straightforward once you know which service to use. The key is picking an approved vendor and sending it early enough that it posts before the next canteen cycle.

For people incarcerated at Skyline (CDOC), you have three options: online with a credit or debit card, over the phone with a credit or debit card, or in person with cash at partnered vendor locations across the country. What doesn't work? Mailing money in. CDOC does not accept money orders or cash sent by mail. Stick with electronic or in-person options to avoid delays and returned payments.

CDOC uses three approved vendors for deposits to Skyline inmate accounts: JPay, Western Union (Send2Corrections), and GTL through ConnectNetwork (TouchPay). Each of these services has its own website and/or app where you can start a deposit and follow the prompts for CDOC.

Fee note: ConnectNetwork (GTL/TouchPay) is used for trust (commissary) deposits. Fees can apply, and they can vary based on the amount you send.

Send money before 4:00 p.m. Mountain Time and it will generally be available the next day. If timing matters (like catching the next canteen cycle), earlier in the day is safer than cutting it close.

Planning tip: CDOC advises allowing 2 to 3 days for funds to process and be available, especially if the money is needed for canteen orders.

One thing that surprises families: the full amount you send may not show up as spendable balance. CDOC withholds a minimum of 20% of any deposit toward court-ordered obligations like fines, fees, restitution, and child support. So if your loved one says the deposit looks short, that withholding is usually the reason.

At Skyline, CDOC's Canteen program is how someone uses their account funds for everyday needs and small comforts. The program offers more than 1,100 retail items, from food and hygiene products to other categories. It runs without taxpayer support, creates inmate work opportunities, and uses profits to fund inmate employment and programs.

Want to send a care package instead of (or alongside) a regular deposit? Union Supply is the only CDOC-approved care package provider. Families and friends can order monthly care packages for Skyline inmates, up to the spending limits set for the person's facility and living unit.
