Getting Approved and Scheduling Visits at Smith Transitional Center: Step‑by‑Step
Everything starts with getting approved. Once you're on the list, you can request visits and plan around the cutoff times that determine whether your weekend or holiday plans actually happen.
Before you can visit someone at Smith Transitional Center, you need to be an approved visitor. The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) handles this through their Visitation Request Form. Download it from the GDC Friends & Family visitation pages, fill it out completely, and submit it to Smith Transitional Center. Once you're approved, you can move on to scheduling your actual visit.
Heads up: On the visitation form, some ID selections are only available if the visitor is 18 or older. If you’re completing the form for someone under 18, read the ID section carefully before submitting.
Once approved, request your visit through the GDC visitation form. Fill in the required information and submit it. Double-check everything before hitting send - small errors can delay the process.

Cutoff times can make or break your plans. For weekend visits, submit your request by 5:00 PM on Wednesday of that week. For state holidays, the deadline is 5:00 PM three days before the holiday. If you're coordinating travel or other family members, build these deadlines into your planning.
Watch the ID section carefully when filling out the form. Certain ID options require the visitor to be 18 or older. Make sure your selection matches the visitor's age before submitting.
