How to Create Your TDCJ Visitation Scheduler Account and Book Your First Visit (Smith Unit)

The TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler is how you'll request and book visits once you're approved to see an inmate at the Smith Unit. Every visitor needs their own account - TDCJ staff can't create one for you, though they can help update certain details after your account exists. When you go to schedule, you may see multiple visit types: Regular, Contact, and Video/Tablet. Heads up: the scheduler's Video/Tablet option is not the same as the Securus Video program available at some units.

Start by creating an account with a valid email address. After you submit, TDCJ sends an email with a 7-digit validation code and a link to finish registration. Click that link right away. On the validation page, re-enter your email, type in the 7-digit code, then create a password that meets all the requirements. Confirm it and submit. From there, you'll move into the rest of the setup.

Warning: Once an account is created for an email address, that account can’t be deleted and the email address on the account can’t be changed.

After setting your password, you'll land on the Background Questionnaire. Answer every question - TDCJ won't let you move forward until it's complete. Helping someone who isn't comfortable online? Keep in mind: each visitor must create their own account. Unit staff can't set it up for them, but they can assist with updates once the account exists.

Phone number format: Enter your telephone number as `XXX XXX XXXX` using spaces - no dashes. Dashes can trigger errors and prevent your profile from saving correctly.

Next, add the inmate to your profile. The scheduler requires the TDCJ or SID number to be exactly 8 digits - double-check for missing or extra numbers before submitting. Don't know their number? Use the TDCJ Offender Search to look it up, then come back and enter the full 8-digit number.

After adding the inmate, you'll submit a Relationship Request. This isn't instant - until unit staff approve it, your request sits on your home page under

Once your relationship is approved, you can book your first visit. From your home page, select the inmate and choose a visit type. You may see options like Regular, Contact, and Video/Tablet (again, Video/Tablet here is not the Securus Video program). Pick your visit type, and the scheduler shows available dates and times. Select an opening and submit your request. Planning to visit with others? Each person needs their own scheduler account - you can't create accounts for anyone else.

Reminder: You can’t schedule through the system until unit staff approve your Relationship Request.

Troubleshoot

  • If the “Schedule Visit” button is blank or replaced with “Call Unit,” you’ll need to call the inmate’s unit of assignment to schedule the visit.
  • If you created the account with the wrong email, you can’t change the email address on the account and the account can’t be deleted; you’ll need unit help after the account exists if you’re stuck.

Your email address is the one thing you can't fix later. Once the account is created, the email can't be changed and the account can't be deleted. Take a moment during signup to make sure you're using the right inbox. Already past that point and running into problems? Reach out to the unit for help.
