What to Bring (and What to Leave in Your Car) When Visiting South Central Corrections Facility
Packing for a prison visit is mostly about packing less. At South Central Corrections Facility, you'll breeze through check-in if you bring only what's allowed and leave everything else locked in your car.
Keep it simple: bring your photo ID and car keys (or key fob). That's it. Lock everything else in your vehicle. You'll still go through security screening before entering the visitation area.
Planning to use the vending machines? Most visitation areas run on a debit card system. Pick one up or reload it in the lobby before heading into the visitation area.
Baby Items
- ✓ Diapers (as needed)
- ✓ Formula powder
- ✓ Unopened, sealed baby food
- ✓ Other needed baby items (pack only what you’ll reasonably use)
- ✓ Clear plastic bag to hold all baby items (required)
Even allowed baby items will be inspected. Every visitor passes through multiple security screenings, including a body scanner. Pack baby supplies neatly in that clear plastic bag to keep the line moving.
Leave in Car
- ✓ Cell phones
- ✓ Smart watches
- ✓ Wallets
- ✓ Any other personal items not specifically allowed (plan to bring only your photo ID and car keys/key fob)
Heads up: Vehicle searches may routinely be conducted on state property. You’ll also go through multiple security screenings, including a body scanner, before you’re allowed into the facility.
Prohibited Items
- ✓ Smoking or vaping of any kind
- ✓ Firearms
- ✓ Weapons
- ✓ Drugs
- ✓ Alcohol
These rules apply on state property, not just inside the building. Vehicle searches may routinely be conducted, so don’t bring prohibited items onto the grounds at all.
Give yourself extra time for entry. Everyone passes through multiple security screenings, including a body scanner. Arriving with only approved items - and minimal metal or accessories - helps you avoid delays.

- ✓ Camouflage attire
