What ID You Need for Video Visits at South County (and What Won't Work)
To check in for an on-site video visit at South County Detention Facility, you'll need a valid photo ID. The facility accepts a U.S. Driver's License, U.S. Identification card, U.S. Active Military ID, U.S. Resident card, U.S. Passport, or a U.S. government-issued ID card.
- ✓ Must include a photograph or fingerprints
- ✓ Must show an issue date and an expiration date
Some IDs won't work, even if they have your name on them. South County does not accept Mexico Voter cards, expired IDs, photocopies of an ID or birth certificate, school IDs, non-U.S. IDs, Indian Reservation ID cards, or Matricula Consular IDs.
Arrive at least five minutes before your scheduled video visit. Every visitor needs their own acceptable ID - one person's ID won't cover the whole group.
Practical Tips
- ✓ Check the expiration date before you leave - expired IDs are rejected.
- ✓ Bring an original ID, not a photocopy (photocopies of ID or a birth certificate won’t work).
- ✓ If you have more than one acceptable option (for example, a driver’s license and a passport), bring a backup.
- ✓ Make sure the ID you choose is one of the accepted U.S. IDs and that it shows a photo or fingerprints plus issue and expiration dates.
- ✓ Leave non-accepted IDs at home (including school ID, non-U.S. ID, Mexico Voter card, Indian Reservation ID card, and Matricula Consular ID).
Watch for these deal-breakers: Expired IDs, photocopies, and non-U.S. IDs (including Matricula Consular) are common reasons people get turned away.
