You'll need to complete the visiting application process before your first visit. Start by reviewing the Visiting Rules for Residents and Visitors, then grab the application from the Visiting Application page and submit it as directed. Show up without approval? You're looking at a wasted trip.

Heads up: If your loved one is new to prison, wait until they’ve been classified before you submit your visiting application - classification tells you which institution the application needs to go to.

Give yourself plenty of lead time. The application and background-check process typically takes two to four weeks, so submit your paperwork early - especially if you're coordinating around work schedules, travel, or family plans.

Money and Vending

  • Leave cash bills at home or in your car - no paper money is allowed in visiting rooms.
  • Bring coins in a clear plastic bag if you want change for vending.
  • If applicable, use a debit or credit card for vending machine purchases.

Prohibited Items Food Photos

No photos means no photos: Pictures of any kind aren’t allowed in visiting rooms, including images stored on keychain-sized electronic picture viewers.

Even after you've done everything right, schedules can shift. SICI's visiting hours may change due to emergency situations, so don't assume last week's schedule will hold the day you travel.

  1. Confirm housing and the matching visiting schedule - Contact facility visiting staff to verify your loved one’s housing location and the corresponding visiting schedule.
  2. Double-check through the resident/client search tool - If you use the resident/client search tool, confirm the information there before you leave.
