Visitation

How to Visit Facility

Visiting starts before you ever show up at the door. Handle the pre-approval steps first, and the rest of the process goes much smoother.

You have to be on the inmate's pre-approved visiting list before you can visit. If you're not listed, you'll be turned away, even if you traveled hours to get there. Confirm this first.

To get added, complete the Visitor Application Form and mail it to the institution for processing. Once it's been reviewed, both you and the inmate will be notified whether you're approved or denied.

Bring a valid government-issued photo ID for check-in. Staff will ask for it before you’re allowed to visit.

Video visits: Video visitation runs through Securus Video Visitation. You still need to be pre-approved and listed on the inmate's pre-approved visiting list before you can schedule a session.

Kids under 18 don't need their own pre-approval, but they can't visit alone. A minor must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who has physical custody and is already on the inmate's pre-approved visiting list.

There's a cap on how many people can be on the pre-approved list, and it depends on security level. Maximum and Medium Security inmates can have up to 8 pre-approved visitors. Minimum Security and Pre-release inmates can have up to 10.

Steps

  • Confirm you’re on the inmate’s pre-approved visiting list before you try to visit
  • If you’re not approved yet, complete the Visitor Application Form and mail it to the institution for processing
  • Bring a valid government-issued photo ID for check-in
  • For video visitation through Securus Video Visitation, make sure you are pre-approved and listed before you schedule
  • If you’re bringing a minor (under 18), make sure they are accompanied by an approved parent or legal guardian
  • Ask which security level applies, so you know whether the pre-approved list is limited to 8 visitors (Maximum/Medium) or 10 visitors (Minimum/Pre-release)
  1. Ask whether you’re already on the list: Confirm with the inmate or the institution that you are on the pre-approved visiting list.
  2. Submit the visitor application if you’re not approved: Complete the Visitor Application Form and mail it to the institution.
  3. Confirm you’ve been processed: Make sure you and the inmate have received the approval/denial decision before you make firm visit plans.

Before you go, double-check which forms of government-issued photo ID are accepted at check-in and make sure yours is current. If you're bringing a child under 18, confirm that the accompanying adult is a parent or legal guardian with physical custody and is on the inmate's pre-approved visiting list. Minors can only visit when properly accompanied.

Check the visitor limit: The pre-approved list is capped at 8 for Maximum and Medium Security, and 10 for Minimum Security and Pre-release. Confirm the inmate’s security level so you know how many visitors can be added.

For video visits, check the current scheduling steps for Securus Video Visitation directly with the institution before setting expectations with family. The core requirement is the same as in-person: you must complete pre-approval and be listed on the inmate's pre-approved visiting list before you can schedule.
