Picking Up an Inmate's Property at Western Regional Jail (hours, approvals, and the eyewear exception)

At Western Regional Jail, inmate property can be picked up during normal business hours: 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Can't make it during those hours? Call 757-942-0545 to set up an appointment with the property department.

Property is normally released only to the inmate. If someone else needs to pick it up, the inmate must submit an inmate request form first - and that request has to be approved before the jail will hand anything over. Planning to do a pickup for someone? Schedule your appointment only after the approval comes through.

One more thing: there's a hard limit on stored property. Everything must fit inside the authorized inmate storage container.

The jail won't accept property dropped off at the facility or sent through the mail - with one exception. Nonmetal eyeglasses and contact lenses can be mailed in, but only if they come with a current prescription.

1. Bring nonmetal glasses and/or contacts plus the current prescription - this exception only applies when the prescription is up to date.
2. Deliver them to the jail lobby counter - the lobby clerk will contact the medical department.
3. Wait for medical approval - medical staff will determine whether the items will be accepted.
