What ID to Bring and What Clothing Is Not Allowed for Video Visits (Abingdon)
Video visits go a lot smoother when you bring the right ID and follow the dress code. Check the lists below so you don't get turned away at check-in.
Every visitor needs valid photo identification for a video visitation session at the Abingdon facility. Not sure which ID to bring? Pick from the accepted types below so you're not scrambling at the last minute.
A Driver's License works here - and the facility accepts both current and expired licenses.
Military or Government IDs work too. So do passports - if that's what you have, bring it.
School IDs are accepted, but they need to include your photo. Immigration Cards (Mica) are also valid for video visits.
Any picture ID issued by a City, County, State, or Government Agency is on the approved list. As long as it has your photo, you're good.
The Abingdon facility enforces clothing rules even for video visits. Wear something from the prohibited list below and you could be denied your session. Keep it simple and conservative.
Sheer, transparent, net, or mesh materials are prohibited. If someone can see through it under normal lighting, pick something else.
Clothing that exposes the stomach, back, shoulders, chest, midriff, or underarms isn't allowed. Make sure you're covered in all those areas.
Skip anything designed to fit tightly and accent your body. The rules specifically call out spandex leggings, tank tops, and bodysuits.
Dresses, skirts, jumpers, and culottes must be no more than four (4) inches above the knee. If you're unsure about the length, go longer.
Adults can't wear shorts. Kids can.
Hats and headgear aren't allowed - the only exception is religiously recognized and approved headwear.
Quick examples to avoid: Sheer/mesh tops, outfits that expose the midriff or shoulders, tight spandex leggings or bodysuits, skirts more than 4 inches above the knee, adult shorts, and hats (unless they’re religiously recognized and approved).
Right ID and right clothing still won't get you in if you're not approved to visit. You must be on the inmate's approved visitor list before you can do a video visitation session.
Practical Tips
- ✓ Bring an accepted photo ID: Driver’s License (current or expired), Military or Government ID, Passport, School picture-type ID, Immigration Card (Mica), or another picture ID issued by a City/County/State/Government Agency.
- ✓ Skip sheer/transparent/net/mesh clothing.
- ✓ Avoid outfits that unduly expose the stomach, back, shoulders, chest, midriff, or underarms.
- ✓ Don’t wear tight, body-accentuating clothing such as spandex leggings, tank tops, or bodysuits.
- ✓ Keep dresses/skirts/jumpers/culottes to no more than 4 inches above the knee.
- ✓ Adults: don’t wear shorts (shorts are only allowed for minor children).
- ✓ Don’t wear hats or head gear unless it is religiously recognized and approved.
Before your appointment, confirm you're on the approved visitor list. If you're not, the session won't happen - even if your ID and clothing check out.
