What Happens During a Drug Dog Search at Souza-Baranowski
Souza-Baranowski uses passive drug-detecting dogs as part of the entrance process. You won't see one every visit - canine searches happen at random intervals to catch illegal drugs before they make it inside.
If a drug-detection dog alerts to you, staff will have you step out of line. You’ll then be asked to consent to a search by correctional staff before you can continue with the entry process.
If you refuse the search: You won’t be allowed to visit, and you’ll be required to leave the facility.
If illegal drugs are found, the consequences are immediate and serious. You can be permanently barred from visiting any DOC facility, and you may face criminal prosecution.
- Request a review or reconsideration - If you’re barred from visiting because drugs were found, you can ask the Facility Superintendent to review or reconsider the bar under the current visiting procedure regulation.
