Three Ways to Send Money to an Inmate at Spartanburg County Detention

Need to put money on someone's account at Spartanburg County Detention? You've got three options: the kiosk in the main jail lobby, an online deposit through McDaniel Supply, or a U.S. Postal Service money order by mail. Which one works best depends on how quickly you need the funds to arrive, what fees you're comfortable with, and whether you want a paper receipt.

The lobby kiosk at 950 California Ave is your fastest in-person option. Deposit cash, and the money hits the inmate's account immediately. The kiosk prints a receipt when you're done - keep it in case you need to verify the deposit later.

Good to know: The lobby kiosk is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so you don’t have to work around business hours to make a deposit.

Fees vary by payment method. Cash deposits cost a flat $3.00, deducted from the amount you put in. Credit and debit cards work too, but those fees are on a variable scale - so expect the amount to change depending on your transaction.

Can't make it to the jail? You can deposit funds online through McDaniel Supply Company using a credit card. The money goes directly into the inmate's account.

  1. Gather the inmate’s information - have the inmate’s name or inmate ID number ready before you start.
  2. Complete the credit card deposit - enter the details and submit the transaction.
  3. Save your confirmation - McDaniel Supply will send a confirming receipt to the email address you provide.

Note: Online deposits go through McDaniel Supply by credit card, so any fees are handled as part of that payment process.

Mail is the old-school route, but there's a strict rule: Spartanburg Sheriff's Detention Facility only accepts U.S. Postal Money Orders sent through the U.S. Postal Service. Other types of money orders won't be processed.

Warning: Don’t add letters or photographs in the same envelope as the money order. If they’re included, all contents will be returned to the sender.

  • Write the inmate’s name and inmate number on the money order.

Mail takes longer, so plan ahead. Money orders are processed Monday through Friday (excluding holidays), and the inmate gets a receipt the day after processing. If you're trying to make sure they can order commissary by a certain date, the lobby kiosk is a safer bet.

Need speed? The lobby kiosk wins - funds post immediately. Mailed money orders follow a weekday processing schedule (Monday through Friday, excluding holidays), so timing depends on when the facility receives your envelope. Online deposits through McDaniel Supply split the difference: you can't beat instant, but it's faster than waiting on the mail.

On fees: cash at the kiosk costs a flat $3.00, deducted from your deposit. Card payments at the kiosk use a variable scale, so there's no fixed number. For proof of payment, the kiosk prints a receipt immediately. McDaniel Supply emails you a confirmation after an online deposit.

Tips

  • On mailed deposits, write the inmate’s name and inmate number on the money order.
  • If you use the lobby kiosk, keep the printed receipt.
  • If you deposit online through McDaniel Supply, save the confirming receipt sent to your email.

Reminder: Keep money-order envelopes “money order only.” If you tuck in extra items like letters or photos, the whole envelope gets returned to the sender.
