Before You Visit St. Anthony Work Camp: A Checklist for Families
A smooth visit at St. Anthony Work Camp comes down to two things: following the visiting rules and completing your visiting application before you travel. Use the checklist below to avoid common problems at the door.
St. Anthony Work Camp (SAWC) is a 400-bed work camp for minimum- and community-custody men. Before making plans, review the Visiting Rules for Residents and Visitors and complete the visiting application ahead of time. SAWC expects both done before you show up.
Both the visiting rules and the application form are on SAWC's Visiting Application page. Start there if this is your first visit or if it's been a while.
Complete Application
- ✓ Find SAWC’s Visiting Application page (it includes the Visiting Rules for Residents and Visitors and the application form).
- ✓ Read the visiting rules carefully before you fill anything out.
- ✓ Complete the visiting application process before you travel to the facility.
Note: SAWC visiting schedules can change based on emergency situations. Confirm your visit before you make the drive.
SAWC flags a serious legal risk: under Idaho Code 18-5210, knowingly introducing or possessing contraband in a correctional facility is a crime. Don't bring anything that could be considered contraband onto facility property. "I didn't mean to" won't help if you knowingly had it with you.
- Do a quick “pockets and bag” check before you leave home - SAWC lists contraband examples such as tobacco, cell phones or other telecommunication equipment, controlled/illegal substances, firearms or dangerous weapons, ammunition/explosives, and escape tools or devices.
- Understand the stakes if you violate contraband rules - violations for introducing or possessing contraband can be punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $10,000.
Want to bring support from home another way? Keep Idaho Department of Correction mail limits in mind: residents can receive letters from family and friends, but not packages. Photos are allowed - just no Polaroids or photos depicting nudity.
