Before Your First Visit to Saint Landry Parish Jail: a 1-page checklist (ID, timing, dress, searches)
Visiting at Saint Landry Parish Correctional Center is treated as a privilege, and staff can deny, revoke, or limit a visit if it would threaten the safety, security, or good order of the facility - or if visitation rules aren’t followed. That can mean you’re turned away at the door, or a visit that already started gets ended early. If you want to avoid a wasted trip, focus on the handful of rules below that most often lead to denial.
- ✓ Be ready for a search of your person and/or items in your possession.
- ✓ Don’t bring or attempt to introduce contraband of any kind.
- ✓ Skip suggestive or revealing clothing.
- ✓ Don’t show up with the odor of alcohol on your breath.
- ✓ Don’t arrive appearing to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
- ✓ Bring identification - lack of ID can get you denied.
- ✓ Never use falsified identification.
You must be signed in 20 minutes before the close of visitation. In real life, that means you’ll want to arrive earlier than you think you need to - checking in and getting screened can take time, and if you miss the cutoff you can be turned away even if you’re only a few minutes late.
If you’re bringing a teen, plan ahead: no one between the ages of 13 through 17 is allowed to visit unless accompanied by an adult. If the adult can’t be there for the full check-in and visit, it’s safer to reschedule than risk being denied at the door.
Saint Landry Parish Correctional Center also denies visiting privileges to people who have been incarcerated within the last six months when they request to visit. The facility notes an exception for relatives of the inmate, but if you’re unsure whether this applies to you, plan for extra time and be prepared for staff to verify eligibility.
You'll go through screening at the door. Staff can search you and anything you bring, and they can deny entry based on what they find or observe - alcohol on your breath, signs of intoxication, or clothing they consider revealing. Keep things simple: bring as little as possible and show up sober and dressed conservatively.
- ✓ Visits are 20 minutes long and non-contact.
- ✓ A maximum total of three (3) people are permitted to visit at one time.
