SLF offers four visiting blocks on Monday, Thursday, and Friday: 7:00 A.M.–10:00 A.M., 10:30 A.M.–1:30 P.M., 2:30 P.M.–5:30 P.M., and 6:30 P.M.–9:30 P.M. Weekends have five blocks: 9:00 A.M.–11:00 A.M., 11:30 A.M.–1:30 P.M., 2:30 P.M.–4:30 P.M., 5:00 P.M.–7:00 P.M., and 7:30 P.M.–9:30 P.M. The schedule page was last updated 04/07/25.

Weekday Blocks

  • Monday, Thursday, Friday: 7:00 A.M. – 10:00 A.M.
  • Monday, Thursday, Friday: 10:30 A.M. – 1:30 P.M.
  • Monday, Thursday, Friday: 2:30 P.M. – 5:30 P.M.
  • Monday, Thursday, Friday: 6:30 P.M. – 9:30 P.M.

Monday, Thursday, and Friday share the same four time blocks. Pick based on what actually works for your schedule - whether that's after work, after school drop-off, or after a long drive. Give yourself enough cushion so you're not rushing through the door.

Weekend Blocks

  • Saturday, Sunday: 9:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M.
  • Saturday, Sunday: 11:30 A.M. – 1:30 P.M.
  • Saturday, Sunday: 2:30 P.M. – 4:30 P.M.
  • Saturday, Sunday: 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M.
  • Saturday, Sunday: 7:30 P.M. – 9:30 P.M.

Saturday and Sunday share the same five visiting blocks. If you have flexibility, choose the one that fits your travel day best. Early blocks let you wrap up by midday. Later blocks give you time to drive in and sort out childcare or work coverage first.

Your best slot depends on real-life logistics: how far you're traveling, whether you're coming from work, and how much buffer you need for traffic or weather. Morning blocks work well if you want a predictable day - visit early, then head home with the rest of the day ahead of you. Afternoon blocks are solid if you need time for errands, a meal, or a longer drive without leaving at dawn. Evening blocks fit when daytime hours don't work, but they can feel tight if you're rushing from work or coordinating rides. First visit? Build in extra time so you're not stressed before you even walk through the door.

  • Your drive time (and a realistic buffer for traffic, weather, and finding parking)
  • Work and school schedules (including pickup/drop-off times)
  • Childcare coverage and whether you’ll need to be back by a set time
  • Meals and energy: whether you’ll need to eat before you arrive or plan dinner afterward
  • Who’s coming with you (and how easy it is for everyone to arrive early)
  • Whether you prefer mornings (fresh start) or evenings (after work) for a calmer visit

Before you leave, check the SLF visiting schedule page to confirm the current time blocks - it was last updated 04/07/25. For general questions or to submit a visiting application, contact mdoc-stlouis-public@michigan.gov.
