Michigan Parole Board: What It Does and Why You Shouldn't Call to Ask for Early Release

Michigan Parole Board: What It Does and Why You Shouldn't Call to Ask for Early Release

The Michigan Parole Board has 10 members, all appointed by the MDOC Director. Their job? Making parole decisions after someone has served their minimum sentence. The Board only gets involved once a person becomes eligible for parole consideration - and at that point, they're the ones who decide.

MDOC guidance: Don't contact the Michigan Parole Board to ask about parole or early release. The Board already reviews all eligible cases automatically.

Need basic information - like where to send paperwork or who handles public questions? MDOC has a separate channel for that. General inquiries are handled Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST. MDOC's Office of Public Information and Communication manages both internal and external communications, including media requests and social media. That's the office set up to answer questions from families and the public - not the Parole Board.
