Virtual Legal Visits (VAV) at Stewart Detention: What Attorneys and Families Should Know

VAV lets attorneys have confidential conversations with clients through video platforms like Zoom, WebEx, or Microsoft Teams. It's a faster option when an in-person visit isn't practical.

Note: VAV is a communication alternative, not a replacement for in-person attorney-client meetings at Stewart.

VAV sessions are strictly for legal purposes. Only legal representatives, legal assistants, and interpreters can participate - family members and friends aren't permitted to join.

A visitation officer stays stationed outside the confidential room during VAV sessions. This setup maintains facility security while keeping the legal conversation private inside the room.

ID Docs

Stewart conducts VAV in a confidential room with a visitation officer positioned outside. Expect a setup that protects attorney-client privacy while meeting facility security requirements.

No recording: Legal representatives and their staff are not permitted to audio- or video-record any virtual or in-person visit, or any call, with detainees at Stewart. Violations can lead to suspension or permanent revocation of VAV user privileges.

Family members cannot join VAV sessions. Stewart limits participation to legal representatives, legal assistants, and interpreters only.

If you're family, coordinate directly with the detainee's attorney instead. Share any information you need addressed, and the attorney can bring it up during the VAV session using Zoom, WebEx, or Microsoft Teams - then follow up with you afterward.
