Visitors must be 18 or older, or accompanied by an adult. If you're bringing anyone under 18, they need to come with a parent - and you'll need the child's original birth certificate. Photocopies won't work. The adult also needs a current, valid government-issued photo ID (state ID, driver's license, or passport) for check-in.

Note: Dress appropriately and follow staff directions. If you don't comply with Suffolk County Sheriff's Department personnel, your visit can be ended.

Only two children are allowed per visit. Traveling with more than two? You'll need to plan ahead so only two enter at a time.

Kids aren't allowed to visit on Saturdays. If that's your only free day, plan for an adult-only visit or pick a different day to bring the children.

Visiting hours run seven days a week across four daily sessions: 8:00–10:30 am, 1:00–2:45 pm, 3:30–5:00 pm, and 7:00–8:45 pm. Pick a session that gives you plenty of buffer for check-in, especially when you've got kids in tow.

  1. Plan to arrive early - Aim to get there 30 to 60 minutes before the visiting period starts.
  2. Have your documents ready - Keep your photo ID and the child’s original birth certificate easy to access so check-in goes faster.
  3. Build in time for screening and instructions - Expect a security process and staff directions once you arrive; extra time helps you avoid missing the start of the session.

Each inmate gets up to three visits per week (Monday through Sunday). If you're coordinating kid visits with other family members, keep that limit in mind so you don't accidentally use up all the visits early in the week.
