Sending Money to Someone at Sumter C.I.: Who Can Actually Deposit Funds

At Florida DOC facilities like Sumter C.I., only certain people can deposit money into an inmate's trust account. Under Rule 33-601.716, F.A.C., you must be listed on the inmate's automated visiting record with a current "approved" status. No approval? Your deposit may be rejected.

This is why the visitation application matters - even if you never plan to visit. Getting approved puts you on the inmate's visiting record, which is what authorizes you to deposit funds. Without that approval, the system treats you like any other unauthorized person. Being family doesn't automatically qualify you, even if you just want to help cover basics like hygiene items or phone time.

Before you visit or try to send money, confirm with the inmate that your application was approved. The Florida DOC visitation application is clear: don't show up until you've been notified. That same approval is what you need before attempting a trust-account deposit - otherwise you risk wasting time and money on a transaction that won't go through.

JPay money order deposits use a different mailing address. The JPay money order form lists: JPay, PO Box 260130, Hollywood, FL 33026.

2. Submit the form as instructed - the application is submitted to the institution where you’re requesting to visit.
3. Wait for the inmate to confirm approval - do not visit until the inmate notifies you your application is approved.
