Video Visits from Home or an AFOI Visitor Center — How to Choose and Rules to Avoid Ending Your Call Early
Video visits let you stay connected, but the rules are strict—timing, who's on camera, and what you wear all matter. Here's how to choose between visiting from home or an AFOI visitor center, plus the rules that'll help you get your full scheduled time.
You have two options for video visits: from home or at an AFOI visitor center. At-home visits let you connect using a home computer, tablet, or Android smartphone. Which should you pick? Consider what makes for a smoother call - a quiet, private spot at home with a device you trust, or a visitor center where you just show up at your scheduled time.
For at-home visits, pick your most reliable device - home computer, tablet, or Android smartphone - and make sure it's ready before your appointment. Timing matters just as much as your tech. You must be logged into the GTL system 15 minutes before your visit starts. Using an AFOI Visitor Center instead? Arrive at least 20 minutes early so you're checked in and ready when your time begins.
Note: Visits run only for the exact time slot you scheduled. Late or missed? Fees aren't refunded. Log in early (or arrive early at the center) to protect your time.

- ✓ Join only for your exact scheduled time slot - video visits don’t run over or “start late and still give you the full time.”
- ✓ Don’t arrive late or miss the visit; fees will not be refunded for late arrivals or missed visits.
- ✓ Keep the group size within the limit: no more than five people total, including children.
Reminder: Miss your window or show up late, and the fee isn't returned - even if your visit ends up shorter than expected.
Dress like you're walking into a public building, even from home. Clothing must cover from neck to kneecaps, and underwear is required during video visits.
Plan your seating before connecting. No more than five people (including children) can participate in a single video visit. Decide ahead of time who'll be in the room and on camera.
