What Happens to Your Original Letters After You Mail Them to Tabor
Mail sent to people at Tabor (and other NCDAC prisons) doesn't arrive as paper. TextBehind screens and scans everything you send - letters, greeting cards, photos, artwork - and converts it into digital images. Those images get forwarded to the prison, where your loved one can view them on their tablet.
Addressing your envelope correctly is critical. Send it to TextBehind's Maryland processing address and include your loved one's name, their OPUS number, and the full prison name - don't abbreviate. Miss any of that, and your letter gets returned instead of scanned and delivered.
Tip: If you submit your letter through the TextBehind app, it can be processed within one business day.
- Email TextBehind within 30 days - Contact customer support at info@textbehind.com and request that your original letter and contents be returned.
- Pay the return service fee - TextBehind charges $2.50 per letter to mail the original items back to you, and that fee covers return postage.
Fee reminder: The return service fee is $2.50 per letter, and it includes the cost of return mailing.
Don't wait too long - originals are shredded after 30 days if you haven't requested them back.

- ✓ Use the TextBehind app when you can, especially if you want faster processing (it can be processed within one business day).
- ✓ Keep your own backup before you mail anything - take photos or scan your letter, card, photos, or artwork - since TextBehind will scan what you send and deliver the digital images to your loved one’s tablet, but the paper original won’t be kept indefinitely.
