Taylor County Juvenile Visitation: A Practical Checklist for Parents and Guardians
Visiting a child in detention is stressful enough. Clear rules help. Use this checklist to plan your visit at the Taylor County Juvenile Justice Center and avoid the common reasons visits get denied or cut short.
Visitation at the Taylor County Juvenile Justice Center happens weekdays only: Monday through Friday, 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Plan around that window - don't try to check in right at the end.
In-person visits are short - just 15 minutes.
Phone calls during visitation periods are limited to 10 minutes. The phone schedule follows the same timing as in-person visits, except on weekends and designated Taylor County holidays.
Only the juvenile's parent(s), legal guardian, or custodian may visit. Bring a valid ID every time - you'll need to show it.
Before you show up, confirm you're on the approved list. The juvenile's probation officer arranges visitation approval and creates the approved visitor list. If your visit isn't authorized by the probation officer, you won't be allowed in.
Each juvenile gets one visit per visitation period. If parents are divorced or separated, coordinate ahead of time. One parent's visit uses up the only slot for that period.
Note: Only the Facility Administrator, detention supervisors, or probation supervisors may authorize any deviation from the visitation rules.
On any given day, the juvenile can have either a face-to-face visit or a phone call - not both. If you're planning to visit in person, don't expect a call the same day.
Juveniles can't dial out on their own. Staff initiate all calls to people on the approved visitation list. If a juvenile isn't receiving an in-person visit, they can request to make a phone call.
Prohibited Lobby
- ✓ Do not bring infants or children to visit.
- ✓ Do not leave children unattended in the lobby.
- ✓ Do not smoke or dip tobacco inside the facility.
- ✓ Do not bring food or beverages into the lobby or the visitation area.
- ✓ Do not give the juvenile anything - no candy, gum, cigarettes, matches, or any other item.
- ✓ Leave purses, cell phones, cameras, keys, and other personal items out of the visitation room.
- ✓ If needed, keys and identification may be placed on the reception counter.
Warning: Violating visitation rules can end the visit immediately and may also lead to denial of future visits.
- Bring a valid ID every time - visitors must present and provide a valid identification card at each visit.
- Get approved through the assigned probation officer - visitation approval is arranged through the juvenile’s probation officer, who creates the approved visitation list.
- Keep your group to two people unless you’re pre-approved - unless previously approved, no more than two people may visit the juvenile at one time.
- Arrange childcare before you go - infants and children aren’t allowed to visit, and children can’t be left unattended in the lobby.
Co-parenting from separate households? Treat visitation like an appointment you plan together. Since the juvenile gets one visit per period, coordinating schedules ahead of time prevents last-minute conflict at the door. Need an exception? Only the Facility Administrator, detention supervisors, or probation supervisors can authorize deviations from visitation rules.
