Send mail to: P.O. Box 490, Red Bluff, CA 96080. Use the P.O. Box exactly as written - addressing it any other way can slow things down or prevent delivery entirely.

Include a complete return address on every envelope. Your full name and mailing address need to be visible so the jail can process it - and so undeliverable mail can get back to you.

Example address format: RETURN ADDRESS: Your Full Name 1234 Your Street Red Bluff, CA 96080 INMATE ADDRESS: Inmate’s Name P.O. Box 490 Red Bluff, CA 96080

Sending legal mail? Mail it to the inmate at P.O. Box 490, Red Bluff, CA 96080. Write "Legal Mail" clearly on the front of the envelope.

Legal mail change (effective July 1, 2019): Tehama County Jail no longer accepts drop-offs of legal mail at the jail window. Legal mail needs to be mailed, or you can come to the jail and ask to see the inmate to personally serve them.

Contraband - drugs, weapons, hazardous materials - is prohibited. Anything like this gets confiscated or returned. Stick to simple paper correspondence.

Skip the food and clothing. Neither is allowed through incoming mail, and both will be returned or confiscated.

  • Stationery items such as stamps, envelopes, and post-its
  • Paper such as construction, drawing, cardstock, tracing, hobby, craft, or felt paper
  • Paperclips
  • Metal or plastic items
  • Laminations
  • Balloons
  • Jewelry
  • String
  • Feathers

CDs, DVDs, and tapes aren't allowed either. Don't include any media items.

Want to send books? Keep the limit in mind: inmates can only have 5 books at a time. Send more than that, and the extra may be rejected.
