Sending Books to Tehama County Jail: Publisher-Only Rule and the 5-Book Limit
Tehama County Jail does allow reading materials, but the rules are strict about where they come from and how many an inmate can have. Follow the guidelines below so your book doesn't get rejected or sent back.
Stick to paperbacks. Hardcover books are not allowed at Tehama County Jail. The accepted formats are books, newspapers, and magazines, as long as they're sent correctly. A standard paperback edition is your safest bet to keep an order from getting turned away.
The biggest rule is where the book comes from. Tehama County Jail only accepts books, newspapers, and magazines when they ship directly from the publisher or through an online service like Amazon or Barnes & Noble. Packages sent from a local bookstore or from you personally will be rejected, even if the item itself would otherwise be fine.
Note: If you order a book and have it shipped to yourself first, then mail it to the jail, it can be rejected. Place the order so it ships directly from the publisher or approved online retailer to the jail.
There's also a hard possession cap: an inmate cannot have more than five (5) books at any given time. If you send books regularly, check in with your loved one before ordering so you don't accidentally push them over the limit.

- ✓ Order only from the publisher or an online service (for example, Amazon or Barnes & Noble).
- ✓ Make sure the item is a paperback (hardcover books are not accepted).
- ✓ Set the shipping address so the vendor ships directly to the jail, not to you first.
- ✓ Address the package to the specific inmate so staff can route it correctly.
Send all inmate mail to this address: P.O. Box 490, Red Bluff, CA 96080. For legal mail, the jail does not accept drop-offs at the jail window. Legal mail must be mailed to the specific inmate at that same address, and you need to write "Legal Mail" on the front of the envelope.
