Attorney Visit Checklist: What You Need to Meet Your Client at Terrebonne Parish Jail
Attorney visits at Terrebonne Parish Jail are straightforward once you have the right email, IDs, and paperwork ready. Use the checklist below to avoid delays at check-in.
To request an attorney visit at Terrebonne Parish Jail, you must email booking1@tpso.net at least 24 hours in advance. Your message needs to include a list of the clients you want to see and the specific date and time you’re requesting, so the jail can line up availability and reduce scheduling conflicts.
- ✓ Your contact phone number
- ✓ A list of the client(s) you’re requesting to visit
- ✓ The requested visit date and time
Note: If you need to bring electronic equipment for trial purposes, you’ll need prior approval from the Warden or Assistant Warden - include that request in your scheduling email.
When you arrive for the requested visit, bring both forms of identification the jail requires: your Bar Card and a valid state driver’s license. Having them ready at check-in helps keep the process moving.
- Check in in the lobby - Sign the book located on the desk in the lobby before you enter the visitation area.
- Keep your IDs in hand - You’ll be asked to present your Bar Card and valid state driver’s license during the visit process.
Attorney visits are conducted through the glass in the visitation area, so plan for a separated, phone-based conversation rather than an in-room meeting. You also won’t be allowed into any restricted area of the facility.
In the visitation area, there are two phones reserved for attorneys, and those phones are not recorded. Because there’s only one phone on each side of the glass, only one person is allowed to visit a client at a time - plan for a one-on-one consult rather than bringing multiple team members to the window.
Prohibited Items and Document Rules
- ✓ Purses/pocketbooks
- ✓ Cell phones
- ✓ Cameras
- ✓ Video cameras
- ✓ Tape/digital recorders
- ✓ Food
- ✓ Drinks
- ✓ Computers
If you’re handing anything to your client, keep it strictly to legal documents - no other items are allowed. Prepare your paperwork so it’s “loose” and clean: papers cannot have binder clips, staples, or paperclips attached.
If your client has trial-related needs that require viewing video footage or using electronic equipment, get prior approval from the Warden or Assistant Warden before you arrive. The facility limits what can come in - only a laptop is permitted - so spell out what you’re bringing and why when you email to schedule.
Dress professionally for the visit. Terrebonne Parish Jail does not allow short skirts, tank tops, tight-fitting clothing, or open-toe shoes, so choose conservative attire that won’t get you turned away at check-in.
Heads up: Medical appointments take priority. If your client is scheduled to see a provider during visitation hours, they'll be seen by medical staff first.
