Before Your First Visit to Terrell Unit: ID, Cash, and Cell Phone Checklist
Visiting Terrell Unit for the first time? A few minutes of prep can save you a wasted trip. Run through this quick checklist for ID, cash, and your phone before you head out.
If you’re 18 or older, you’ll need a current, official government-issued photo ID to be allowed in for a visit at Terrell Unit. Make sure it’s not expired and that the photo and name clearly match you - staff will check it at entry.
At least one of your IDs must show a current physical address. The exception: victims of family violence certified by the attorney general for address protection. Everyone else should bring ID with an up-to-date address.
Planning to bring kids? First confirm the person you're visiting is allowed to have visitors age 17 or younger - some inmates are restricted. If the online scheduler asks whether the visit includes children under 17, that's a hard stop. When that question appears, minors can't be added to that visit.
Leave your cash at home. Coins are the only exception, and you can't bring more than $35 worth. Stick to small change only.
Cell phones aren't allowed inside the secure perimeter at TDCJ units, including Terrell Unit. Leave yours secured in your car before you enter - otherwise you'll get stopped at the gate.
Section 5
- ✓ Create your own TDCJ online visitation account before you try to schedule (staff can’t create the account for you).
- ✓ If the online scheduler shows “Call Unit” or the “Schedule Visit” button is missing, call the inmate’s unit (Terrell Unit) to schedule.
Using the online scheduler? Double-check everything before you leave. If anything looks off - especially a message saying you can't schedule online - call the unit first. Better to sort it out by phone than drive all the way there and get turned away.
