Visiting Terrell Unit: Saturday & Sunday Hours and What to Expect
Weekend visits at Terrell Unit run smoother when you know the official hours, what type of visit you're scheduling, and what's allowed inside. Here's what you need to know.
TDCJ weekend visiting hours are Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. That's the overall window - your actual visit will be scheduled in a specific time slot based on the unit's visiting cycle and availability. So while weekends are open for visitation, you'll still have a set start time and a time limit.
Call the unit before you drive out. Confirm the schedule and make sure visitation hasn't been canceled. Takes a minute, but it can save you a wasted trip - especially on weekends when lots of families are trying to visit.
The TDCJ online scheduler lists four visit types: Regular, Contact, Video/Tablet (not the same as Securus Video at limited units), and Remote Video Visit. You probably won't see all four options. What's available depends on your relationship to the inmate, the visiting area setup, and the inmate's privileges. Don't be surprised if only one or two choices show up when you schedule.
Remote Video Visits: These are live video visits done through a kiosk, and you schedule them through the vendor website. They’re in addition to contact or general visits for eligible inmates, and may be available once per month for up to 60 minutes.
Contact visits allow limited physical contact. TDCJ permits one embrace and kiss at the start of your visit and one at the end. That's it - no ongoing contact during the visit itself.
Before You Go
- ✓ Bring a current, official government-issued photo ID if you’re 18 or older, and make sure at least one ID you use shows your current physical address (with exceptions for certified victims of family violence who have address protection)
- ✓ Bring coins only if you want vending money - no cash bills, and no more than $35 in coins
- ✓ Leave your cell phone behind - no cell phones are allowed inside the secure perimeter
Scheduling online? You'll need to create your own TDCJ visitation account - staff can't do it for you. Even with a visit already on the books, I'd call the unit before heading out. Confirm the schedule and check for cancellations so you don't get turned away at the gate.
If the "Schedule Visit" button is missing when you log in - or it says "Call Unit" instead - you'll need to phone the inmate's assigned unit to book your visit. That same call lets you confirm the current schedule and verify visitation is still on before you make the trip.
