What Happens After You Submit a Relationship Request at Terrell Unit
Submitting a relationship request is just the first step. At Terrell Unit, TDCJ staff must review and verify your request before you can schedule a visit.
Once you submit your relationship request through the online scheduler, it gets sent to the incarcerated person's unit for staff review. It doesn't just sit in your account waiting.
This unit-level review is the gatekeeper. Until TDCJ staff verify your relationship with the inmate, the system won't let you schedule a visit.
Your scheduler account shows where you stand in the verification process. Check the status to see whether your request is still waiting on unit approval or if the relationship has been verified.
- ✓ Relation Requests Pending Approval - You’ve submitted the request, and it’s waiting on TDCJ staff at the unit to verify the relationship. While it’s pending, you typically won’t be able to schedule a visit for that person yet.
- ✓ Verified Inmate Relations - The relationship has been verified by the unit. Once you see the person listed here, the scheduler should treat them as an approved relationship for scheduling purposes.
Note: While your relationship is pending, the scheduler may limit what you can do. Scheduling options typically unlock only after verification is complete.
If things seem stuck, double-check the inmate ID you entered. The scheduler requires the TDCJ or SID number, and it must be exactly 8 digits. A wrong number can derail the whole process.
No Schedule Visit button - or a grayed-out one? The most likely reason is that the relationship hasn't been verified yet. Before making the trip, confirm the incarcerated person is assigned to the unit you're planning to visit, check that they still have visitation privileges, and call the unit to double-check everything.
- Make sure you’re using your own scheduler account - Visitors must create their own TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler accounts; TDCJ staff can’t create a visitor account for you.
- Confirm the unit assignment and visitation privileges - Before you travel, verify the incarcerated person is assigned to the unit you’re planning to visit and has visitation privileges.
- Call the unit to confirm before you go - Even if the scheduler looks right, call the unit for final confirmation before traveling.
