At the Terrell Unit, it's not about how you pay - it's about who you are. Since September 1, 2020, TDCJ only accepts deposits from people on the inmate's approved Visitor List or Inmate Telephone List. Not on either list? Your deposit gets rejected. This applies even if you're a family member, and even if you've successfully sent money before.

Note: Since September 1, 2020, deposits can only come from someone on the inmate’s approved Visitor List or approved phone list. Deposits from anyone else are rejected.

Two ways to become an approved sender: get added to the inmate's Approved Visitation List, or register your phone number with Securus to be placed on the Approved Phone List. You only need to be on one - either list qualifies you to send money.

  • Ask your loved one to add you to their Approved Visitation List (this is one way to qualify as an approved sender).
  • Keep the visitor-list limit in mind: each inmate can have a maximum of 10 names on their Visitors List.
  • If you can’t get on the visitation list, register your phone number with Securus so you can be placed on the Approved Phone List (the other way to qualify).
  1. Choose your approval path - either get added to the inmate’s Approved Visitation List or register your phone with Securus to be placed on the Approved Phone List.
  2. Have the inmate add you (visitation list option) - the inmate is the one who adds names to their Approved Visitation List.
  3. Register your phone (phone list option) - contact Securus and complete the phone registration process so your number can be approved.

Sending a trust fund deposit? Don't mail it to the Terrell Unit directly. Trust fund deposits go through a separate process, and mailing payments to the facility is one of the most common reasons deposits get rejected or delayed.

Note: Don’t send the inmate’s personal mail or any other items to the Inmate Trust Fund. Keep deposits and personal mail separate so they don’t get rejected or misrouted.

Not sure if you're approved? Check before you spend money or make the trip. First, confirm the inmate is actually assigned to the Terrell Unit and has visitation privileges. Then check the unit's visitation schedule to make sure it hasn't been canceled. Finally, call the unit directly before you travel.

  1. Confirm the inmate is at the Terrell Unit - check that they’re assigned there and have visitation privileges.
  2. Check the unit visitation schedule - verify visitation hasn’t been canceled.
  3. Call the unit for final confirmation - do this before you travel.
  4. Confirm you’re an approved sender - make sure you’re on the inmate’s Approved Visitation List or you’ve registered your phone with Securus to be on the Approved Phone List.
