How to Set Up a Securus Account, Understand Calling Rates, and Manage Multiple Numbers
If your loved one is in Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC), getting phone calls set up comes down to two things: creating a Securus account and understanding how calls are priced and limited.
Securus Technologies handles all inmate phone calls for GDC. The easiest place to start is the Securus Technologies website, where you can create a pre-paid collect or direct-bill account.
You can set up your account online through the Securus Technologies website. Create either a pre-paid collect account or a direct-bill account, then use it to manage billing for all incoming calls.
Prefer to set things up by phone? Call 1-800-844-6591 to open a Securus pre-paid collect or direct-bill account. It's a good option if you'd rather skip the website.
Local calls through Securus cost $0.06 per minute. Knowing this rate helps you estimate costs quickly, whether it's a short check-in or a longer conversation.
A 25-minute local call costs $1.50. That 25-minute mark matters because it's the maximum time allowed per call, so most conversations will top out around that length.
Good news on fees: funding a Securus pre-paid collect account costs $0.00 per deposit whether you deposit through the IVR/website, a live agent, or by check or money order.
Deposits are capped at $200.00 each. If you need to add more than that, you'll have to split it into multiple deposits.
Juggling a home phone, cell, and work line? Securus lets you add multiple telephone numbers to a single pre-paid collect account. This is helpful because calls can only go to numbers on your loved one's Call Allow List. Having all your numbers set up means they can reach you wherever you are.
Your loved one can also pay for their own calls. They can transfer money from their trust account to a Securus debit calling account in $1 increments.
Note: Calls may be monitored and recorded.
