Who to Contact When You Have Questions About Your Loved One's Care in GDC Custody
Questions about your loved one's medical treatment or daily care in Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) custody? Following GDC's expected contact order will save you time and cut down on runaround.
Start with your loved one's counselor. They're the first stop in GDC's contact chain and can route your questions to the right staff or clarify what's happening with care and treatment.
- Contact the Chief Counselor - If you cannot resolve the issue through the counselor, the next step is the Chief Counselor.
- Contact the Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment - If you still are not getting the help you need, escalate to the Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment.
- Contact the Warden - If the concern remains unresolved, the Warden is the next facility-level contact.
- Contact the Regional Director - After working through the facility, move up to the Regional Director.
- Contact Ombudsman staff - Ombudsman staff are the last step in this sequence after you have attempted the earlier contacts.
Tip: This contact chain is meant for concerns about proper medical treatment. As you move up each step, keep a simple log of who you contacted and when, so you can clearly explain what you have already tried.
Already worked through facility contacts (counselor, Chief Counselor, Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment, and Warden) without resolution? The next step is the Regional Director, followed by Ombudsman staff. This level provides review and follow-up beyond the institution itself.
Parole questions: Parole-related concerns are outside the GDC Ombudsman unit’s jurisdiction. For parole matters, contact Pardons and Paroles.
Not sure where your loved one is currently housed? Use GDC's "Find an Offender" tool. Enter whatever identifying information you have, and you can locate the right person along with key details like facility location, charges, and release date.
