Photo Limits

  • No more than five (5) 4×6 photographs per envelope.

Incarcerated individuals can only keep 20 photographs in their cell at a time, regardless of how many envelopes you send. If they're already near that limit, they'll have to decide which photos to keep and which to let go.

Legal mail - from courts or attorneys - gets special handling. Staff open and inspect it for contraband while the inmate is present, keeping the contents confidential while still checking for prohibited items.

Note: After it’s screened in the inmate’s presence, legal mail is given to the inmate without delay.

Non-legal mail goes through Detention Services, where security personnel screen it before delivery. This is standard procedure for all incoming items at the facility.

Welfare Kit

  • One welfare kit per week (per inmate)
  • One postage-paid postcard
  • One postage-paid envelope
  • 2 sheets of paper
  • One pencil
  • One eraser

Ventura County Jail only accepts government checks from local, state, or federal agencies. The check must arrive in the issuing agency's official envelope - otherwise, it won't be accepted.
