You'll need photo ID to enter the visiting area at Ventura County Jail. Show up without it, and you'll be turned away.

The list of allowed items is short. You can bring a personal key ring. Visiting with an infant? You may also bring one baby bottle and/or one blanket.

Leave bags and personal storage items at home or locked in your car. Purses, wallets, backpacks, and diaper bags aren't allowed in the visiting area - bringing them can slow down check-in or end your visit before it starts.

Bringing a child? Plan to go in without bulky gear. Strollers and infant carriers aren't allowed, so keep it simple - bring only what the jail permits for an infant.

Anything that can record, transmit, or pass messages stays outside. Cell phones (including smart phones), smart watches, and cameras aren't allowed. Pens and pencils are banned too - don't tuck one into your pocket "just in case."

Skip snacks and anything you'd normally carry to pass the time. Candy, food, cigarettes, matches, and lighters aren't allowed. Neither are books, magazines, newspapers, pictures, or other papers.

Quick Tips

  • Bring photo ID for every adult visitor.
  • Carry in only what’s allowed: a personal key ring, plus one baby bottle and/or one blanket if you’re bringing an infant.
  • Leave everything else behind (especially bags, phones/smart watches, papers, food, and cameras) so you don’t risk being denied entry.
