The New Mail Policy at Tom Green County Jail: Why Your Letters Go to Longview First

As of Dec. 15, 2023, all non-legal, non-medical inmate mail for Tom Green County Jail must go to the off-site processing address in Longview. Put the inmate's name and SO# on the envelope, then address it like this: Inmate Name, SO#, Tom Green County Jail, PO BOX 591, Longview, Texas 75606.

Mail routed through the scanning system is scanned front side only. If you write on the back of a page, your loved one may never see it. Keep everything you want delivered on the front of each sheet.

This is why your letters go to Longview first. Tom Green County Jail directs non-legal, non-medical mail to the Longview PO Box address (with the inmate's name and SO#) so it can be processed and scanned before delivery to the inmate.

Your original physical mail is not kept indefinitely. The processing center holds originals for 30 days. If the jail doesn't retrieve them within that window, the processing center may destroy them (they are not returned to the sender). Treat anything you send as if you won't get the original copy back.
