Sending Mail and Books to an Inmate at Tooele County Detention
Tooele County Detention Center only accepts mail sent through the U.S. Post Office. Use standard USPS mail and a regular envelope.
Address the envelope using the facility’s format, and make sure you include the inmate’s full name. Your letter also needs your full name and complete return address on the outside of the envelope. Use this format: Tooele County Detention Center Inmate’s Full Name 1960 South Main Tooele, UT 84074
Note: Write clearly. If the name or return address is hard to read, your mail could be delayed or rejected.
Important: Don’t write on the envelope cover flap - that includes the glue line.
Don't use sticker labels for addresses. The facility explicitly warns that address labels can get your mail denied. Write or print the addresses directly on the envelope instead.
Before sealing the envelope, double-check that both the inmate's name and your return address are easy to read.
Certain packaging materials won't make it into the housing area. Padded mailers (foam or bubble), stiff thick paper, and cardboard mailers are all prohibited. Stick with plain envelopes.
Tip: Plain envelopes are your safest option. Padded mailers, cardboard packaging, or sticker labels all increase the chance your mail gets rejected.
Books must ship directly from a bookstore, publisher, or retail outlet. You can't send a book you've handled yourself - it has to come straight from the seller.
Books need to arrive unaltered. No writing inside, no inscriptions, no notes tucked between pages.
Heads up: Hardback books aren’t accepted.
