Yes, minor children can visit at Topeka Correctional Facility - as long as they're on the resident's approved visitation list. No approval, no visit. It's that simple.

Note: Even if a child is approved, a visit can still be denied or ended for safety, security, or management reasons - including cases where the resident is being managed as a sex offender.

You can't just drop a child off with any adult visitor. The person bringing the child must be both an approved visitor and the child's parent or legal guardian.

Once inside, you're responsible for keeping your child supervised. If staff feel the child isn't being properly watched, they can end the visit early.

  • The resident is being managed as a sex offender
  • The visitor appears under the influence of drugs or alcohol
  • There isn’t enough space available in the visiting area
  • The visitor refuses to submit to a search (per IMPP 12-115)
  • The visitor refuses or fails to provide sufficient identification
  • The visitor violates facility rules
  • The child isn’t properly supervised
  • The visitor or the visitor’s child appears ill
  • Staff determine the visit needs to be denied, suspended, or ended to preserve facility security and reasonable order in the visiting area

Note: The shift supervisor on duty has the authority to deny, suspend, or terminate visits for the reasons above, including security and order concerns.

Keep group size in mind when planning: in-person visits allow a maximum of four visitors per resident. Children count toward that total.

Visits must be scheduled online ahead of time. The scheduling window closes at least 72 hours before visitation begins for that week, so don't wait until the last minute.

At check-in, every visitor needs a government-issued photo ID - a driver's license or state ID works. No acceptable ID means no visit.

Kids under 16 without photo ID? A copy of their official state-issued birth certificate works instead. Set it aside the night before so you're not scrambling at the door.

Non-U.S. citizens without a U.S. or state government photo ID will need to show a valid passport or visa.
