Getting Approved: How to Get on an Inmate's Visitor List at Topeka Correctional Facility
Before you can visit anyone at Topeka Correctional Facility, you need to be on their pre-approved KDOC visitation list. No exceptions. Once approved, you'll also need to schedule your visit in advance.
You can't just show up and hope for the best. To visit someone at Topeka Correctional Facility, your name must already be on their KDOC pre-approved visitation list. If it's not, you won't get in - period. So the real first step is getting approved, not planning your trip.
Being on the list is only half the battle. You'll still need to schedule your visit through the ICSolutions online scheduler or by calling the facility's visitation clerk. Here's the catch: the scheduler closes 72 hours before visitation starts for that week, so book early.
The resident kicks off the process. Once they're eligible for visiting privileges, they get a visitor-request form from their unit counselor and mail it to the people they want on their list. You can't start the application yourself - it has to come from them.
Getting the form in the mail doesn't mean you're cleared to visit. Your application still needs to be reviewed and approved before you can schedule anything. Wait for confirmation before making plans.
Fill out the visitor-request form completely and send it back as instructed. Take your time - mistakes or missing information can delay the process, and you won't be allowed in until everything is approved.
- Get the visitor-request form from the resident - the resident has to mail it to you.
- Complete and return the application - your visit can’t happen until your application is reviewed and approved.
- Schedule your visit after approval - use the online ICSolutions visitation scheduler or contact the facility visitation clerk.
- Schedule at least 72 hours ahead - the scheduler closes 72 hours before visitation begins for that week.
Each resident can have a maximum of 20 visitors on their approved list. If the list is already full, someone will need to be removed before you can be added.
Special visits: The warden (or designee) can authorize a one-time special visit in certain situations. The resident requests this through their unit team using a Form-9. Examples include visiting before your background check clears, or when you've traveled 150 miles or more one way.
KDOC uses a "primary visitor" designation with specific rules. Married residents (by license or common law) must list their spouse as their primary visitor. Unmarried residents can name anyone 18 or older - as long as that person isn't already listed as the primary visitor for another resident.
- ✓ The resident may change their designated primary visitor every six months.
If you're a victim of the resident and still want to visit, you'll need to indicate that on your application. The Office of Victim Services may reach out for additional information.
