Visiting with kids at Travis County Correctional Complex: rules and what changes

Normally, only two visitors are allowed in the face-to-face visitation area at Travis County Correctional Complex. If you're coming with another adult, that's your full group under the standard rule.

Bringing a young child changes that math. When a child under 12 is part of your group, the facility allows up to three visitors - so two adults can come along with the child.

Note: Face-to-face visits for family and friends are non-contact. Set expectations with kids beforehand about what the visit will look like.

Kids can't visit alone. Anyone under 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian - so make sure an eligible adult is part of your group.

Anyone 17 or older needs a government-issued photo ID to visit. Double-check this before you leave, especially if you're the adult responsible for accompanying a minor.

Practical Tips with Children

  • Arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled visit so you have time to check in.
  • Don’t cut it close: check-in ends 15 minutes before the visit, and late check-ins are not accepted.

Reminder: No outside food or beverages are permitted into visitation.

Planning around school, naps, or a long drive? On-site visitation (face-to-face and kiosk video) runs Wednesday through Sunday, roughly 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM. County holidays are excluded.

If your group is bigger than the visitor limit, you'll need to take turns. Each visitor is allowed two visits per week (face-to-face or kiosk video), so many families split up - some go the first visit, others go the second.

  1. Decide which visit will be face-to-face - if you’re trying to include kids under 12, plan the group around the face-to-face visitor limit.
  2. Schedule at least 24 hours ahead - face-to-face visits must be scheduled 24 hours in advance using ViaPath Technologies Travis County visitation scheduling.
  3. Use your second weekly visit for the next group - since you get two visits per week, you can rotate family members without trying to exceed the visitor limit in a single time slot.
