Virtual Visits with Trenton Inmates: Cost, Scheduling, Device Requirements, and Rules

You can request a virtual visit with a Trenton inmate if you’re already on that inmate’s approved visitation list. If you aren’t approved yet, you’ll need to get on the approved list first - virtual visits aren’t open to the general public.

  1. Create your own visitor account - Each person who wants to participate has to set up an account at scdoc.gtlvisitme.com/app.
  2. Make sure your account name matches - Use the same name you’re approved under on the inmate’s visitation list so your visit request doesn’t get held up.
  3. Get ready before you schedule - Read the on-screen instructions and test your device so you’re not troubleshooting at the start of the visit.

The scheduling window is tight. You must book at least three days ahead, but no more than seven days in advance. Slots are first-come, first-served - request early to get the time you want.

Each virtual visit costs a flat $10 for a 50-minute session. You're charged when the visit begins, and visits start on the hour. There are no partial refunds - if the call ends early for any reason, even if you choose to end it, you still pay the full $10.

Plan your group before you schedule. Up to four approved visitors can join a virtual visit, and that count includes minor children. If you want multiple family members on the call, make sure everyone is approved and fits within the four-person limit.

  • Approved visitors age 10 and older must show a photo ID to the visitation coordinator before participating.
  • Approved minor children under age 10 must have a certified long-form birth certificate as their identification.

Virtual visitation runs through the same GTL system where you create your visitor account. Each participant needs their own account to join. The service works on computers, tablets, and Android phones - but iPhones are not currently compatible. If you normally use an iPhone, plan on switching to a different device.

Be ready at your device 15 minutes before the scheduled start time. Visits begin on the hour, so that buffer gives you time to sign in, handle any prompts, and be set when the session opens.

Note: Certain locations are off-limits - bedrooms, bathrooms, and nightclubs (or similar venues). Pick a neutral, appropriate space so your visit doesn't get denied.

Assume everything is being recorded. Video and audio from virtual visits can be reviewed for appropriateness - that's why the rules around conduct, location, and who appears on camera are enforced closely.

  • Virtual visits may be reviewed for appropriateness, and inappropriate actions can end the visit immediately.
  • If a visit is terminated for rule violations, visitation privileges can be suspended.
