Understanding Monitoring and Recording at Northwest Regional Corrections Center
If you're visiting or communicating with someone at Northwest Regional Corrections Center (NWRCC), expect to be monitored. Knowing what gets recorded (and what doesn't) helps you protect your privacy and avoid problems.
NWRCC reserves the right to monitor and record visits. The simplest way to think about it: anything you say or do during a visit may be observed and saved. Keep conversations appropriate, and avoid sharing sensitive personal details you wouldn't want repeated outside the facility.
Phone calls are monitored too. NWRCC reserves the right to monitor inmate phone calls, and all non-attorney calls will be recorded. Calls to attorneys are the exception. If you're discussing anything private, assume someone could listen to it later and keep things general.
Heads up: NWRCC can block any telephone number it believes needs to be blocked for facility security or public safety.
Don't count on staff to pass along messages. Correctional staff will not take non-emergency telephone messages for inmates. If you need to share non-urgent updates, use an approved communication method instead.
If your loved one uses a tablet, treat it like it has zero privacy. NWRCC reserves the right to monitor all inmate tablet activity, including written messages, photos, and video. Everything is recorded.
Monitoring doesn't stop in the moment. All tablet activity and communication at NWRCC is stored and accessible to law enforcement. Think carefully before sending anything you wouldn't be comfortable having reviewed later.
Photo/video review: Staff review all incoming digital photos and video for appropriateness before approving them.
Access can be suspended: Sharing inappropriate or unauthorized content through tablets is prohibited. If misuse is identified, tablet access will be suspended.
Practical Tips
- ✓ Assume visits at NWRCC are recorded, and keep your conversation and behavior appropriate.
- ✓ On the phone, remember that non-attorney calls are recorded and monitored. Save private legal discussions for attorney calls.
- ✓ Avoid sharing sensitive details (passwords, account numbers, or anything you would not want repeated).
- ✓ If a topic could create problems for your loved one, do not discuss it during a visit or on a recorded phone call.
- ✓ Treat all tablet messages (written, photo, and video) as monitored and recorded.
- ✓ Send only content you are comfortable having stored and accessible to law enforcement.
- ✓ Keep photos and videos clean and appropriate, since staff review incoming images and video before approval.
- ✓ Do not share inappropriate or unauthorized communication or content. Tablet misuse can lead to suspended access.
Don't try to work around monitoring. Visits, non-attorney phone calls, and tablet activity at NWRCC can all be monitored and recorded. If something needs to stay confidential as legal communication, it should go through the person in custody's attorney.
