What to Bring and Expect for Your First On‑Site Visit at NWRCC
Your first on-site visit at NWRCC goes much smoother when you handle account setup and scheduling ahead of time. Use this checklist to show up prepared—and avoid the common reasons people get turned away.
You can't just walk in. NWRCC requires all visits - on-site and off-site - to be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. Even if you're hoping to visit tomorrow, start planning today. Before scheduling, create a free Securus video visitation account and submit a photo plus a government-issued photo ID for facility approval. Once approved, you can book your on-site time.
Good to know: All on-site/public visits at NWRCC are free.
NWRCC is located at 816 Marin Ave., Crookston, MN. Use that exact address in your GPS so you don’t lose time circling once you’re close.
On-site visitation runs Monday through Friday, 8:00 am–4:00 pm. No visits on Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays - plan for a weekday.
- ✓ 8:00–9:00 am
- ✓ 9:40–10:40 am
- ✓ 1:00–4:00 pm
Warning: Visiting while driving is illegal. Park and settle in before your visit begins.
Bring an official picture ID for every visitor. Staff will check it at sign-in, and it must include your date of birth.
Expect more than just an ID check. NWRCC runs an outstanding-warrant search and looks for court orders that prevent contact. If security issues come up inside the facility, your visit can be delayed or cut short. Frustrating, yes - but it's standard procedure for keeping the building secure.
Who Can Come Children
- ✓ Visits are limited to two (2) adult visitors per session.
- ✓ Or, visits are limited to one (1) adult and two (2) small children per session.
- ✓ Only one (1) inmate may use a visiting station at a time.
Bringing kids? Plan to stay hands-on the whole time. Visitors under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, and children can't be left unattended in the lobby.
Behavior Prohibited
- ✓ No profanities, nudity, or illicit gestures during the visit.
- ✓ You and the inmate must be fully clothed at all times.
- ✓ If you appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you will be denied a visit.
- ✓ Visiting while driving is strictly prohibited and is illegal.
Leave anything that could be considered contraband at home. If you attempt to smuggle something in, you'll be asked to leave - and you'll lose future visiting privileges.
- Stay calm and keep it brief - getting upset at the door won’t help, and staff may already be dealing with security issues.
- Ask what caused the denial or delay - visits can be delayed or terminated for security issues, and staff also run warrant checks and check for court orders preventing contact.
- Take the next step based on the reason given - if the issue is something you can control (like appearing under the influence), leave and don’t try to push your way into a visit.
