How to plan visits at Tulia Unit: weekend hours, visit length, and visiting cycles
Planning a visit is easier when you know the weekend hours, how long you'll actually get face-to-face, and how TDCJ's visiting cycle affects when you can come back.
Tulia Unit holds in-person visits on weekends only: Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. That's your window, so plan your trip around those two days.
TDCJ tracks visits using a "visiting cycle" that runs Monday through Sunday. Most visitation limits reset with each cycle. Visit on a Sunday, and the next cycle starts the very next day - Monday.
Each visit lasts two hours. The clock starts once both you and the inmate are in place - not when you walk through the front door.
How often someone can receive visits depends on their custody classification (and sometimes their SAT score). Most eligible inmates get one visit per cycle. Some custody levels allow more frequent contact visits or cap visits monthly instead.
- ✓ G1, J1, J2 - one contact visit per week
- ✓ G2, G3, P2, P3, P6, P7 with SAT 3 - one contact visit per week
- ✓ All other G4, J4, P4 - one general visit per week
- ✓ G2, G3, P2, P3, P6, P7 with SAT 4 or higher - three contact visits per month
- ✓ G4, J4, P4 (state jail and SAT 3 and 4 inmates with no disciplinary convictions for one year) - two contact visits per month
Planning ahead? First, confirm your loved one's custody level and SAT score if applicable. Then match it to the weekly or monthly frequency. For the standard one-visit-per-cycle rule, remember cycles reset every Monday - timing your trip around that can help you maximize visits.
Note: Visits may be electronically monitored. Attorney-client visits are the exception.
