Before Your First Visit to Tulsa County Jail: What to Bring and What to Leave Behind

Bring a photo ID if you're 18 or older. Tulsa County Jail requires government-issued identification with your photo before you can visit. A state driver's license works, and so do other options like a state ID, federal ID, or military ID.

ID Dress Code

  • Gloves
  • Coats
  • Jackets
  • Hoodies
  • Hats
  • Caps
  • Other head coverings (religious coverings are the exception)
  • Plan to store these items in the secure lockers instead of wearing them past the lobby

Leave your electronics behind. Cell phones, computers, and other mobile devices are prohibited during visits unless you've received specific authorization from the Sheriff or Jail Administrator. Even if your phone feels like an extension of your hand, don't bring it inside - people get turned away at the door for this all the time.

Warning: Knowingly bringing a cell phone or electronic communication device into a secure area of the jail without authority can be charged as a felony in Oklahoma, punishable by up to two years in DOC custody and/or a fine up to $2,500.

Wearing an ankle monitor? You won't be allowed in. Don't make the trip expecting an exception - have another approved visitor go instead.

  • If you’re under 18, you must be accompanied by your parent or guardian.
  • Children under 16 are not permitted in the upstairs visitation area unless it’s court-ordered or approved by the Jail Administrator.

You'll go through security screening before entering the facility. Staff will check for prohibited items and may search you as part of the process. Refuse the search, and you won't get in.

  1. Arrive with your photo ID ready - if you’re 18 or older, you’ll need photo identification to be admitted.
  2. Remove prohibited clothing and items before you move past the lobby - stash anything you can’t take further (like outerwear and headwear that isn’t religious) in the secure lockers.
  3. Complete the security screening - follow staff instructions during the check.
  4. Proceed only with what you’re allowed to carry - once you’re cleared, keep your belongings minimal and do what staff directs so you don’t lose time or get turned away.
