First In-Person Visit to Turbeville: Scheduling, ID, Arrival & Restroom Rules
Your first in-person visit at Turbeville goes smoothly when you know the timing rules, what ID to bring (especially for kids), and what to expect once you arrive. Use this checklist before you leave home.
You can't just show up at Turbeville and hope to get in. All visits must be scheduled through the GTL scheduler at least 15 hours in advance. Planning a weekend visit? Book as early as possible - miss the cutoff and you'll be stuck outside.
In-person visits happen on weekends only. There are three time blocks on both Saturday and Sunday: 8:00–10:00 am, 11:00 am–1:00 pm, and 2:00 pm–4:00 pm. Pick the two-hour window you can realistically make without rushing.
Each visit is capped at two hours. The schedule already runs in two-hour blocks, but don't count on extra time past your session - plan your day around that maximum.
Closed-security inmates at Turbeville without visitation restrictions can receive one in-person visit per week (every seven days), up to four visits per month. Coordinating with other family members? Talk through who's using which weekend so nobody accidentally hits the monthly cap.
Note: If your loved one has restrictions or a special housing status, the weekly/monthly limits can get complicated - double-check the current SCDC guidance for exceptions before you book.
Anyone 10 or older needs ID. Staff require a government-issued photo ID (SCDC calls this a "public safety picture identification"). Bringing a teen? Don't assume being with an adult covers them - staff will ask for their ID too.
Children nine and younger need a certified long-form birth certificate. Have it ready at check-in so you're not digging through bags while the line moves.
Switching to a virtual visit? The ID expectation is similar - approved visitors 10 and older show photo ID. The timing is different, though: be in front of your device about 15 minutes early so the ID check doesn't cut into your visit time.
Don't arrive hours early. Get there no more than 30 minutes before your scheduled time - this gives staff room to process you without overcrowding the waiting area. Cutting it close? Remember you still have to check in, so aim to be parked and ready within that 30-minute window.
Expect security screening at check-in. Turbeville's in-person visits are non-contact, meaning no physical contact is allowed. Up to four visitors can attend a session, and at least one must be an adult. Plan your group ahead so nobody gets turned away at the door.
Restroom breaks are limited. Visitors get one restroom trip during the two-hour visit. If a child nine or younger is with you, they must go with the adult - and that single trip counts for both of you. Handle restroom needs before you go in.
