Virtual Visits with Someone at Turbeville: How to Set Up GTL VisitMe and Avoid Disconnections
Virtual visits at Turbeville go through SCDC's GTL VisitMe system. Get your account set up correctly, schedule within the allowed window, and steer clear of behaviors that get calls terminated—you'll have a much smoother experience.
Start by creating your visitor account at scdoc.gtlvisitme.com/app. Everyone who plans to join the visit needs their own account - even if you'll be sitting in the same room. When you register, use the exact name that appears on the inmate's approved visitation list. Name mismatches are one of the most common reasons people get stuck during setup.
Need help with approvals or name matching? Contact the SCDC Visitation office at visitation@doc.sc.gov or call 803-896-1838 (press 1 for application questions).
Give yourself some lead time when picking a slot. Virtual visits must be scheduled at least three days in advance, and you can't book more than seven days out. Need to change something after you've booked? You can modify a scheduled visit up to two days beforehand. Cancellations have to happen at least one day before the visit.
Each virtual visit costs a flat $10 for 50 minutes. You're charged when the visit starts. If it ends early for any reason, there's no partial refund - it's still $10.
Prohibited Behaviors
- ✓ Sexual behavior or anything sexual in nature
- ✓ Any display of nudity
- ✓ Inappropriate attire by the visitor
- ✓ Any activity or display of gang paraphernalia
- ✓ Any unauthorized person (adult or minor) suddenly appearing during the virtual visit
- ✓ Use or display of drugs/alcohol, weapons, or related paraphernalia
All virtual visits are recorded and can be reviewed. If something prohibited or inappropriate happens during the session, staff can terminate the visit immediately. Set yourself up in a calm, private space where you control who walks into view and what's on camera. Violations have consequences beyond losing that one call: inmates who break virtual visitation rules can face disciplinary action under SCDC Policy OP-22.14, and virtual visitation privileges may be suspended or revoked entirely.
Warning: Virtual visits are recorded, and if a rule is broken the session can be ended immediately. Keep the camera area controlled so no unauthorized person or prohibited item appears on screen.
Before visit day, log into your account at scdoc.gtlvisitme.com/app and test your setup. You don't want to troubleshoot once the clock starts. If you hit technical issues, check the support options on the VisitMe site where you created your account - using the same portal for setup and testing helps you catch problems early.
Support: For visitation approval or process questions, email visitation@doc.sc.gov or call 803-896-1838 (press 1). For platform or login help, use the visitor support options available through the VisitMe site.
